After watching all four seasons of the series Westworld, originally released in 2016, I was pierced by a question I couldn’t let go of:
Do we live in a real world… or in a simulation created by our own narratives?
This is not just about science fiction. It’s about a symbolic truth: A world can be physical and real, but if you cannot choose within it— if every decision is shaped by invisible structures— then it too becomes a simulation.
My Inner Reflection
Today, we fear that artificial intelligence might replace us. That it may become something that controls us, that surpasses us. But we don’t realize that — long before that happens — we’ve already begun enslaving ourselves.
Yes, we live in a real world. But we are not free. We are enslaved by what we project on social media, by the pressure to perform a perfect life, a perfect body, a perfectly curated minimalist home. A lifestyle aesthetic that isn’t always real, but is demanded as if it were. We long to live in an “aesthetic” world— where everything fits, where everything looks good, where every part of our existence carries soft filters and matching tones.
But that pursuit of perfection becomes an emotional cage. We’re not allowed to fail. We’re not allowed to be raw. We’re not allowed to feel out loud.
The Simulation Isn’t Digital , It’s Emotional
Any world— even if physical, tangible, and legally real— can become a simulation… if you cannot choose within it.
The most perfect prison isn’t digital.
It’s emotional.
It’s narrative.
It’s a pattern that repeats without you knowing why.
It’s a prewritten story… demanding you fit in.
It’s an apparent freedom built upon algorithms,
social judgment,
and fear of disobedience.
